Flash Player Error in Loading DLL Files

Macromedia's Flash player is a complex program.  Along with powering the ability for websites such as YouTube to broadcast streaming video, Flash also enables developers to create integrated applications for websites, games, and standalone programs that users can download and run on their computer.  Flash is a very complex and important, and when it breaks you will notice.

A rare, but incredibly frustrating experience is the flash player error in loading dll files.  This occurs when the Flash player attempts to load and finds that it is missing a crucial dll file.  Instead of the movie/game/application that was supposed to run you will instead be greeted with an error box that will look something like this:

Line: 1935
Char: 4
Error: Error in loading DLL
Code: 0

The line, char, and code values may all be different, but the really important message to you (the "error" message) will always say the same thing: Error in loading DLL.

Possible Causes and Solutions to DLL Flash Player Errors:

A quick search of the internet will yield less that promising feedback.  This error is relatively rare, and information about how to handle it is hard to come by.  However, you can generalize and treat it generically (via reinstalling flash, updating windows, running a spyware/malware check, etc.) or by finding out what is causing the conflict.

Microsoft Windows is very much integrated with other Microsoft products.  Microsoft Office, in particular, becomes highly integrated into the operating system.  The most common flash player error in loading dll's stems from a Microsoft product's installation.  In other words, it usually isn't the Flash player itself that is causing the problem but a conflict with another programs installation.

If you have any Microsoft Office products installed your first verify the installation.  Using the Microsoft installation wizard, make sure that the programs are installed correctly and that everything in functioning properly.  Once you have done that the error will likely disappear if it was related to Microsoft Office.  If not, you will have to treat it generically.

  • Uninstall and reinstall the Flash player - Uninstall flash from your control panel using the Add/Remove Applications Wizard.  Once you have completely uninstalled Flash, visit http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download the latest version of Flash.  As of the time of this writing it was version 10.

Once you have downloaded Flash follow the instructions to install it.  You can then verify that it worked by visiting the page you were on before and seeing if the Flash applet loads up.  If it does not load up, visit www.youtube.com and see if you can view any of the movies.  If you can view the movies on YouTube than it may be a possibility that the Flash applet is broken on the website you were trying to access.
  • Update Windows - Make sure that your installation of Windows, as well as your system drivers and peripherals, are all up to date and using their latest versions.  This will avoid any possible legacy conflicts that may have existed.
  • Update your Internet Browser - Download the latest version of Internet Explorer, FireFox, or Google Chrome.  We recommend that you use FireFox or Internet Explorer 8.  Please note that you may have to reinstall Flash after installing the updated version of your web browser in order for Flash to function properly.

If You Are Still Experiencing Flash Player DLL Errors:

If you have completed the above steps and are still experiencing errors than chances are that the website you are trying to visit may be broken.  If you are completely sure that is not the case your only other option is to perform a system error scan of your computer.
